Important Update: Extended Deadline & Opportunity to Reimagine

We’ve extended the submission deadline for the DESDES Jewellery Design Awards #2 to 31st January 2025. This competition aims to celebrate innovation and emotional depth in engagement ring design. However, many entries so far have lacked creativity and thoughtful presentation, with some participants submitting company-owned designs, which do not align with competition guidelines. We’re inviting participants to rethink their concepts, explore new materials, and push boundaries. If entries still do not meet our standards, the competition will be canceled. In such a case, all participants who submitted entries will receive free enrollment in our Think Like a Jewellery Designer course, designed to foster creativity and help them excel as a designer. Let’s strive for designs that inspire pride and innovation—ones worthy of the cash prize and global recognition.

Theme: Distinctly Yours: Engagement Rings Evolved

Engagement rings have traditionally symbolized the enduring nature of love, with diamonds often chosen to represent an unbreakable bond. While diamonds are celebrated for their timeless symbolism, the modern market has increasingly shifted towards valuing rings based on their monetary worth, rather than their emotional significance. This shift has placed undue financial and mental burdens on individuals, who may feel pressured to spend excessively on a ring to meet societal expectations and avoid judgment for choosing something perceived as "cheap."

At DESDES, we honor the tradition of diamond engagement rings but seek to expand the conversation beyond mere financial value. Our goal is to challenge the prevailing notion that the worth of an engagement ring should be judged by its cost and to offer alternatives for those who desire a ring that truly reflects their personal story and unique relationship.

We invite you to participate in our global jewellery design competition, where you will have the chance to reimagine the engagement ring with a focus on innovation and personal significance. This competition encourages the use of various gemstones and creative design approaches to create rings that celebrate the emotional bond between partners, rather than adhering to conventional financial standards.

Competition Details

Objective: Reimagine the engagement ring to embody personal sentiment and creativity, transcending traditional monetary measures. Our aim is to provide meaningful alternatives for those seeking a ring that reflects their unique story without the pressure of societal expectations.

• Registration Deadline: September 30, 2024
• Phase 1: Participants are required to submit manual designs and renderings, along with a presentation of their concept by November 21, 2024. This phase will focus on conceptual development and initial presentation of your design.
• Results of phase 1 to be declared on November 30, 2024.
• Phase 2: Selected participants will advance to submit a realistic 3D render of their ring by December 31, 2024. This phase will highlight the technical and visual execution of your design.
• Winner's Announcement: January 31, 2025
• Prize: The winner will receive 250 U.S. Dollars | All participants will be awarded a certification of participation.
