Swasti Garg, is an Indian jewellery designer, render artist and global design educator who has a vision to make jewellery design courses and learning accessible worldwide. She studied Jewellery designing professionally at Pearl Academy, Jaipur and has a first class honors degree in jewellery design from Nottingham Trent University, UK.
She has been awarded Pearl Academy’s Excellence Award for three consecutive years and has won an award for The most innovative project in jewellery design for her graduation project ‘PORTAL’ where she designed cufflinks that can be worn on any shirt to help men have more access to daily adornments and designed jewellery that can help people cope up with negative emotions like stress, nervousness and anxiety. One of her piece from the collection “The Feeler Mind” was also showcased on ramp at Amazon Fashion Week in 2018.
Post graduation, Swasti founded Gemeena Jewelcraftz along with her father, Ar. Satyakam Garg. In her own words: “I wore many hats in that business that made me grow as an entrepreneur and develop essential skills like jewellery merchandiser, event manager, customer relationship manager, web developer among others. Within three years, we were receiving orders from all across India and managed to build a strong customer base in Delhi/NCR from where we used to operate. While this was happening, I noticed that several of my customers were from two different spectrums. They were either too enthusiastic and alongside collecting my pieces, they were interested in learning the art of jewellery design, or, they had no idea that there is one such thing as jewellery design and one could build a successful career in it. This allowed me to reflect deeply upon my journey and that is when the idea of teaching jewellery design started brewing in my mind".
During that time, pandemic had forced people into lockdown. But Swasti had other plans, she wanted to turn the existing challenge into opportunity by creating a jewellery design course that could train students deeply regarding the art of jewellery designing and rendering. She recalled that even at her college, her juniors would come up to her to seek advice and her followers on Instagram would express their wish to learn from her.
Ms. Garg realized that due to lack of availability of information and grooming regarding career opportunities in jewellery design, it is a reality that most people are unaware about the rewarding career opportunities in jewellery industry. And while STEM subjects, law and finance are present in almost all colleges, institutes that would teach jewellery design are very few and mostly located in tier-1 or 2 cities. These available courses are not cost effective and could only be afforded majorly by the rich. The most important factor, however is the skillset. While graduating from a top design college does guarantee a degree, the ways of working in the global design arena is something rarely touched upon. Advanced skills like creative thinking and designing, jewellery illustration and rendering, orthographic views or jewellery and perspective drawings suffer from lack of proper direction and guidance.
As a student, Swasti faced the challenges herself. Due to lack of a proper instructor and online jewellery design courses, she had to learn advanced jewellery designing skills all by herself, working for hours on her craft while simultaneously working on her business. It is when she started posting her work on Instagram that led thousands of users discover her work. This eventually led to meetings with several overseas clients, Mr. Robin Green (J'ouvert Designs, Trinidad and Tobago), Mr. Peter Egy and Mr. Chirag Jasud (Indigo Jules, London) among others. Thus, Swasti had already started working as a freelance designer for global brands during the challenging times of pandemic.
To avoid other jewellery design students go through the same hardships and to help them develop advanced jewellery design skills that were at par with global education, Ms. Garg decided to address these concerns by democratizing design education and started publishing jewellery design courses on Skillshare. The overwhelming response to her classes not only propelled Swasti Garg into the spotlight but also led to recognition from institutions like Pearl Academy, where she was invited to conduct workshops and deliver guest lectures in the coming times. She was chosen to be a speaker for TED talk during this time also where she put forward her views on sustainability and ecological design practices.

Swasti’s passion for teaching caught further attention of Jaipur School of Design, JECRC University, where she was invited to teach cohorts of Bachelor's and Master's degree students at the tender age of 25. During the same time, regulatory changes by RBI resulted in students being unable to access Skillshare from India. This prompted Swasti to pivot once again, leading her to establish her own e-learning platform, www.desdesglobal.com (formerly www.swastigargdesigns.com) for learning jewellery design online. She wanted this platform to be truly global and address to the common needs of students from all across the planet. Her vision was swiftly realised, with students from across the globe flocking to her platform.
Within a year of its launch, www.desdesglobal.com keeps growing globally with Swasti’s students achieving remarkable success from all across the planet. Swasti mentions, “I wanted this platform to be global and this vision was achieved in the first month of launch itself as we had students from America (Designer Kaitlyn Foster) and Kuwait (Designer Kholood Alajmi) in our first jewellery design live course, who by the way have both started their own jewellery brands. What really makes a difference is that within just one year of launching our own e-learning platform, our students (both from offline and online classes) have launched their brands, got nominated at jewellery awards (Designer Nidhi Sablok) or have been offered 3x of what is paid to a fresher, all thanks to the advanced jewellery design skills they learned with us, their passion and perseverance. We study, we laugh, we share, we create. I have a very special mentor-mentee bond with all of my students, and that environment fosters growth”.

Swasti’s vision since start was to make jewellery design courses accessible to all, regardless of location, age, gender, race or religion, hence, for her, the most rewarding feeling of all is to see mothers and homemakers learning and building their career with her in-depth jewellery design courses.
In essence, Swasti Garg’s story is one of resilience, innovation, and unwavering determination, a testament to the boundless potential of individuals to effect positive change in the world.
