Dear gems, let’s dive into one of the most talked-about aspects of a diamond—the carat! It’s one of the 4 Cs (along with cut, color, and clarity), and it refers to the weight of a diamond, not its size (yep, that surprises a lot of people!). One carat equals 200 milligrams, i.e. 1 gram = 5 Carats.

To calculate a diamond's carat weight, the general formula is: Carat Weight (ct) = (Length × Width × Depth) × Shape Factor
These dimensions can be calculated using a Vernier Caliper.

The earring has 1 round diamond of size 2.3 mm, 2.3 mm = 5 pt. For 1 diamond = 1 x 5 = 5 pt. Carat weight = 5/100 = 0.05 ct.
Total carat weight for the pair = 2 x (0.33 + 0.05) = 2 x 0.38 = 0.76 ct.
The pendant has 66 round diamonds of size 1.8mm, 1.8mm = 2.5 pt. For 66 diamonds = 66 x 2.5 = 165 pt. Carat weight = 165/100 = 1.65 ct.

The cost of the diamonds will be calculated by finding the cost per carat for the quality of the diamonds used. Then it would be multiplied by the total carat weight of the pendant and earrings.
